HISTORY

The idea to produce a Swedish whisky was conceived by eight friends in a mountain cabin back in 1998. To ensure they stayed in touch after studying engineering together, the group had a tradition of meeting up in Sälen once a year. This time, purely by chance, everyone had brought along a bottle of whisky. During dinner, one of them wondered why there was no Swedish malt whisky, and, if it was possible, why hadn’t anyone already done it? The question remained unanswered but, before long,the vision to become pioneers and produce the first Swedish malt whisky took shape. One year later, in 1999, Mackmyra Svensk Whisky was established.

GRAVITY DISTILLERY

At Mackmyra we strive to make our whisky in as modern, efficient, visitor-friendly and environmentally-friendly a way as possible. To achieve this aim, we decided to build the world’s most climate-smart distillery. In 2011, our Gravity Distillery was finally ready. Standing 35 metres tall, as the name suggests this building makes use of gravity throughout the whisky-making process. It was designed by the architects TEA whose mission it was to imbue the building with a character that captures the essence of Mackmyra: playfulness, sensuality and qualitative production.

MACKMYRA MOMENT BRUKSWHISKY DLX

Moment Brukswhisky DLX is the deluxe version of our classic Brukswhisky; the recipe is the same except that the whisky has been further aged. The whisky has undergone an exciting transformation that has resulted in a richer and more complex palate, with buttery notes of caramel and vanilla. The fruity notes of pear and citrus found in the original Brukswhisky are now more ripe in nature. In the background echoes light and spicy notes of toasted oak, juniper and peat. Brukswhisky DLX is between 9-14 years old and was aged in the Bodås Mine warehouse. The colour is natural and light golden yellow. Bottled in 2021 in only 1999 bottles.

NOSE

Soft vanilla with caramel, honey and choco-late. Finely roasted, bready notes of oak and spicy herbs with light tobacco leaves, leather, white pepper and eucalyptus. Soft, fruity notes of pears, citrus and a hint of raisins.

TASTE

Buttery vanilla caramel, ripe pears and citrus. Soft, herbal spices with anise and pepper, light notes of roasted oak, peat and juniper.

AFTER TASTE

Soft citrus and pear fruit that ends with slightly spicy notes of roasted oak and vanilla.
