Tasting Note

Colour - Amber Gold.
Nose - Light lemon zest and sweet barley fragrance with hints of apple and nutmeg.
Palate - Candied fruits, vanilla toffee and heather honey.
Finish - Lightly spiced with a burst of honeyed malt and sweet oakiness

The History

Deanston Distillery is on the banks of the River Teith and has always been at the very heart of Deanston. It first opened it's doors in 1785, not as a distillery, but as a cotton mill. The mill flourished and as the workforce grew, so did the need for accommodation. The owners saw the opportunity to create a self contained village and built houses for 300 workers, as well as local shops and a school for the children, which still form the centre of Deanston village today. A shortage of coins at the time meant that the mill owners had to create their own, by branding foreign coins with the Deanston stamp in which staff were paid. Changing times meant the mill closed but in 1965 the mill found a new life as the home for a handcrafted single malt whisky.

The Brand

Our single malt is unchilled filtered, which means that nothing is added and nothing is taken away, giving an authentic tasting whisky full of natural flavours. True to this heritage Deanston values tradition over trends. No modern technology is used in making our single malts, our art follows a distilling process as old as the community itself.

Benefits

- Deanston is completely self sufficient, with an ample supply of clear 'soft' water driving it's state of the art turbines, providing enough energy to run the distillery and send electricity back to the National grid. This remains unrivalled among Scotlands's modern day distilleries.
- The wood used to nurture our precious spirit is from Kentucky oak barrels, which give our whisky the deliciously delicate sweet aroma for which Deanston is renowned.
- The barrels are left to mature, undisturbed in the weaving shed of the original mill where the arched roofs maintain a constant cool temperture.
- Deanston is presented in a bespoke bottle featuring the Deanston coin and key signatures from the distillery team, postioning the brand as a premium and handcrafted Highland single malt.
